Dr. Hegel Trujillo-Santamaría
Board-Certified Urologist | Minimally Invasive Surgery | Genitourinary Cancer | Urology Department Chair | Urology Professor | Board of Directors Secretary at Colegio Mexicano de Urología Nacional
I am a board-certified urologic surgeon from Veracruz, Mexico, with a subspecialty in minimally invasive surgery and a clinical focus on genitourinary cancer. I earned my medical degree from Universidad Veracruzana and completed my residency in Urology at the National Medical Center(IMSS). My advanced training includes a fellowship-visitor in minimally invasive surgery at The Prince of Wales Hospital in Hong Kong and a preceptorship in genitourinary oncology at Cleveland Clinic, Ohio, granted through a distinguished scholarship from the American Urological Association (AUA).
I currently lead Urología Santa María Veracruz, a high-specialty urological practice where we integrate world-class surgical techniques with personalized, compassionate care. My surgical expertise includes single-port laparoscopic radical prostatectomy, HoLEP laser enucleation, GreenLight laser therapy and Rezum water vapor therapy; and Sameday Surgery protocols designed for early patient discharge within 24 hours.
For the past two years, I have served as Chairman of the Department of Urology at Hospital de María, where I oversee surgical programs, academic development, and clinical innovation. In parallel, I am the full professor of Urology at Universidad Veracruzana, where I am deeply committed to the education and mentorship of future physicians and specialists.
I have authored and co-authored several scientific publications, including the world’s largest multicenter study on emphysematous pyelonephritis, published in Current Urology Journal. Over the course of my career, I have been recognized with more than ten national and international awards for excellence in surgery, academic leadership, and innovation in healthcare.
