    Learning Objectives:

    • Accurately classify UTIs (uncomplicated, complicated, recurrent) and select the appropriate diagnostic work-up (urinalysis, urine culture, and imaging when indicated) to guide evidence-based management.
    • Apply antimicrobial stewardship principles to UTI management by choosing appropriate empiric therapy, promptly de-escalating based on culture/susceptibility results, and optimizing antibiotic duration to reduce resistance and improve outcomes.
    • Implement practical strategies to prevent recurrent UTIs, including patient risk stratification, non-antibiotic preventive options, and individualized prophylaxis/follow-up plans tailored to diverse patient populations.
    • Recognize red flags and complications of UTIs (e.g., obstruction, catheter-associated infection, and sepsis risk) and determine when to escalate care, obtain urgent imaging, or refer for timely intervention.
