IGOR JOSÉ VAZ
Dr. Igor Vaz is a Mozambican physician and surgeon, known for his extensive work in urology, oncology and reconstructive surgery.
In his professional experience on general surgery, oncology, urology, urogynecology,reconstructive surgery, obstetric fistula surgery, total pelvic reconstruction, pediatric urology, disorders of sexual development (DSD), Dr. Vaz has groundbreaking work that includes his techniques developed for very complex to deemed “incurable” cases of obstetric/traumatic fistula and of urethral and bladder neck reconstructions, cystoplasty, neobladder’s, neovagina, among others.
He as a medical degree (MD) in Urology complemented by General Surgery, FCS Surgery, Gastro Enterology and Endoscopy, and Urethroplasty, studied in different countries - Mozambique, Portugal, France, Ethiopia, and South Africa.
Since 1982, Director of diferent hospitals and Urology at the Maputo Central Hospital, at the Faculty of Medicine, medical assistance at private and public hospitals, in teaching of doctors and surgeons, extending his expertise in training surgeons in several countries in Africa and Asia..
In 2016, he founded Focus Fistula Mozambique, a non-profit organization, offering to date more than 1,500 cost-free surgery to vulnerable and low-income women, girls and children. Through Focus Fistula, Dr. Vaz has been at the forefront of fistula training and treatment programs in Mozambique and proving reconstructive surgery with the support of national and international partners.
Dr. Vaz is the President of the International Society of Obstetric Fistula Surgeons (ISOFS), President of ALU, and is a examiner of the College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa Federation (COSECSA), of the Urological Lusophone Association (ALU), Pan African Urological Surgeons Association (PAUSA), Latin American Association for the Pelvic Floor (ALAPP), International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO), Associação Portuguesa de Urologia (APU), Société Internationale d'Urologie (SIU), European Association of Urology (EUA), Society Of Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgeons (GURS), ISOGURS, International Continency Society (ICS).
