Riccardo Giuseppe Bertolo, 41 years old, is an Associate Professor of Urology at the University of Verona.
After completing his specialization in Urology, he earned a PhD in Bioengineering from the Polytechnic University of Turin and completed a research fellowship in Urology at the Cleveland Clinic (Cleveland, Ohio, USA).
His surgical practice focuses on minimally invasive uro-oncological surgery and "ultra-micro-invasive" surgical techniques for managing cervico-prostatic obstruction, particularly trans-perineal laser ablation of the prostate. He also uses the technology for focal therapy of prostate cancer.
His research is primarily dedicated to uro-oncology, with a particular focus on kidney cancer and on technological innovations in minimally invasive surgery. He has authored over 300 scientific publications in leading urological journals and has an h-index above 40, placing him among the top scientists in Italy. In 2022, he was honored with the Matula Award at the Italian Society of Urology Congress for the best scientific curriculum of a urologist under 40.
Editorially, he serves as a reviewer for over 50 scientific journals, including the most prestigious in urology. In 2022, he was named Reviewer of the Month by European Urology. He currently serves as Associate Editor for the EAU UROONCO Edu platform (Kidney Cancer section) and for the Urology Video Journal.
Internationally, within the European Association of Urology, he is a board member of the YAU Kidney Cancer Group. Additionally, he is a member of the Uro-Oncology Kidney Sub-Committee of the Société Internationale d'Urologie.
In September 2024, he was a Visiting Professor at the Helios Universitätsklinikum Wuppertal in Germany, as part of an initiative supported by the European Urology Scholarship Program. Since 2017, he has held the National Scientific Qualification (ASN) to serve as a Full Professor of Urology.
